January 1, 2011: FU Announces its "Best of the Best"
After
another year of very hard work rating well over 500 beers, we gathered for our annual Best of the Best/New Year's
Eve Celebration. We were proud this year to have some special guests this year as Bryant's younger sister, her husband
and daughter/friend joined us as well. Suffice it to say a good time was had by all. Well, every few years
our coveted Beer of the Year is secured by a dark horse - and this year is the year! In a complete upset, our own brewer,
Scott DeBruyne, took top billing with his homebrewed Barleywine. Scott's libation has aged nicely and with
a slim margin beat out perennial winners of the likes of Cantillon, New Glarus Raspberry Tart and St. Bernardus Abt 12.
Way to go Scott, you make us proud and it's clear that your beers have "Broad Appeal".

July 4, 2010: Presidential Inauguration
Amid the sweltering heat of our annual 4th of July Party, FU coronated our new President (Grace) along with
her esteemed Veep (Susie). Her moving acceptance speech was followed by a chorus of "You Are My Sunshine". The
other big event of the day was FU's first ever "Hamburger Throw-Down". Wow, who would have thought we would have had
such a wide range of entrants and fierce competition? Thanks to all who participated, judged or otherwise partook of
the massive amount of meat that was served! Wayne secured 3rd place, Bryant #2, and in an upset, TJ won bragging rights
as FU's 2010 Burger Champion with his Mango Salsa Burger. The partying resumed with beer flowing from our kegerator,
local fireworks displays and great times with our friends and neighbors. All in all, another great time was had
by all...we miss you Jeff!! A special thanks to John and Ruthie for their leadership during 2009 and for hosting this
amazing event!
June 5, 2010: FU Annouces New President
FU returned to tradition this year and held our blind final examinations to discern our new leadership for
the 2010-2011 academic year. After a night of grueling trials, we're delighted to announce Grace DeBruyne as our next
President. Demonstrating her commitment to fast action, her first official move as President Elect was to select
Susie Rising as her devoted Veep. We look to the future with great excitement secure in the knowledge that Grace and
Susie will lead us in ever more creative directions as we enter our second decade of zymological and culinary excellence!
January 1, 2010: FU Announces its "Best of the Best"
After
a year of very hard work rating well over 500 beers, FU announces, for the 2nd consecutive year, its Beer
of the Year for 2009:
New Glarus Raspberry Tart
July 4, 2009: Presidential Inauguration
FU coronated our new President in grand fashion as Professors Bryant and Wayne serenaded John with our own
rendition of "Proud to be an FU-ican". The new Prez, seated upon his new ceremonial throne, gasped the Knob of Knowledge
and proclaimed that 2009-2010 would be our best year yet. His first order of business was to depose the outgoing
administration and, in spite of his previous claims to "sweep this campus clean", installed his lovely wife Ruthie as
his trusted Veep. Well folks, looks like nepotism is alive and well here at FU!!! The partying resumed with
beer flowing from our new kegerator, local fireworks displays and an ol' timey movie.
June 13, 2009: FU Annouces New President
Gone are the democratic traditions of individual votes, electoral colleges and super delegates ~ yes, this
year FU relied exclusively on a political "wisperer" to discern our new leadership. Foregoing the traditional
final exams, we sought new leadership from a higher authority whose devine wisdom willed Professor John as President
for our 2009-2010 academic year. We anxiously await our annual inauguration on July 4th where a new Veep
will also be named. Initial signs are promising as our new Prez already has our renewed vision penciled on the
back of a bar napkin. Entering our 10th anniversary year, we're confident that Johnnie B will help us achieve
new heights!
January 1, 2009: FU Announces its "Best of the Best"
After
a year of very hard work rating well over 500 beers, FU announces its Beer of the Year for 2008:
New Glarus Raspberry Tart
August 15, 2008: FU Celebrates the Life of Our "Ambassador of Beer"
Our warm-hearted friend, adopted Aunt and devoted beer emissary passed August 15th at the glorious age of 90.
FU pays homage to Evelyn, whose loving spirit, competitive nature and passion for beer, inspired and shaped the very nature
of this institution. In celebration of her life, we raise our goblets in toast, declaring that forevermore there shall
always be, “beer in that beer”.
July 4, 2008: Presidential Inauguration
With her lovely "dressed" husband at her side, FU's new President Lucy graciously assumed office during
our annual 4th of July Celebration hosted by John & Ruthie. In an unexpected break from tradition, her first act
was to depose the outgoing President (Wayne) and select Ashley (aka Smashly Burke) as her Veep! The coronation concluded
with a beautiful duet of "O Canada" sung by Bryant & Susie. The partying resumed with transition of kegs to
St. Bernardus Abt 12 (aka C-A-N-D-Y), local fireworks displays and dancing, dancing & more dancing!
June 7, 2008: FU Annouces New President
Truly, this is an historic year in presidential elections. Although Hillary's bid has been suspended,
FU continues charting new waters. Following grueling final exams and sealed voting procedures, Professor Lucy has
been overwhelmingly elected as President for our 2008-2009 academic year. With Veep (Wayne), and "First
Husband" (Howard), at her side, we know that FU's future is secure and promising!
January 1, 2008: FU Announces its "Best of the Best"
After
a year of very hard work rating well over 700 beers, FU announces its Beer of the Year for 2007: St. Bernardus Abt 12 60th Anniversary Ale.
August 30, 2007: FU Mourns the Passing of the "Bard of Beer"
Michael
Jackson (no, not the fag), whose pioneering leadership in beer literally changed the contents of beer
glasses around the world, died on August 30th. Dubbed the “Beer Hunter”
and “Bard of Beer”, he was only 65. FU mourns his loss and gratefully carries on his work "to elevate the understanding,
the diversity and the nobility of beer." To the man, the legend and his legacy ~ we raise our goblet in humble admiration
and thanks.
June 9, 2007: FU Annouces New President
Due to the underwhelming response at FU's Annual Final Examinations, Professor Wayne sought and won
the Presidency for the 2007-2008 academic year. Well, even though he was the only person eligible that showed up, we're
still proud to have him at the helm again. After securing his position as President, Wayne's first official act was
to pardon the outgoing administration (Bryant and John) for any deeds done or left undone during their tenure. With
his faithful Veep (Bryant) at his side this looks to be an exciting year for Falconbridge University!
